Over the course of the last few months, Lichfield Golf and Country Club has worked closely with international Golf Course Architect Jonathan Gaunt on an extensive plan to complete a total refurbishment of the club’s course bunkers. Contractor John Greasley Ltd worked with the club to complete the programme over three phases.
The investment included new bunkers, drainage to existing bunkers and bunker infills to ensure the course layout reflected the foibles of the modern game.
The first phase took place during the spring to allow for the best conditions to grow the affected areas back in and return to play at the earliest opportunity.
Due to great ground conditions and contractor availability, further capital investment was allocated in June 2022 to proceed with the remaining three holes of the back nine bunker works – holes 10, 11 and 12. Works are anticipated to finish before the end of July 2022.
Golfers of every ability will benefit from these works which have enhanced the course and the club, and positive feedback continues to be received from members.
In order to protect the new areas and give them the best possible chance of strong growth, more ball retrievers have been put in place and club staff will be collecting non retrievable balls and bringing them to reception for golfers to collect.
